Review: Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me [UK]
1 star (out of 5)
By JT Griffith, All Music Guide
When is more less? This CD single is from U2's 1995 contribution to the Batman Forever soundtrack. This single (from a great soundtrack to an offensively poor film) is one of the most unnecessary U2 singles. Two of the three tracks on the CD are non-U2 songs: "Themes From Batman Forever" and "Tell Me Now" by Mazzy Star. Both are fine musically, but not what most U2 fans would want from a U2 single. And then there is "Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me," which was written and recorded during the Zooropa recording sessions. Bono had originally been approached to reprise his live character Macphisto for the movie. Wisely, he instead offered to contribute to the soundtrack. Instead of buying this single, buy the soundtrack, which includes great songs by the Devlins, Eddi Reader, and others. It is a shame that U2's only non-album single of the 1990s would be so unessential.
